About

I’m Manuel and I’m from Karlsruhe, Germany. If you want to contact me, drop me an email or send me a message on the plethora of social networks I’m on.

As many people today, I have one profession but I am doing a lot of different things.

Software

My profession is developing software. I have a Master’s degree in computer science from the University of Applied Sciences in Karlsruhe. I’ve been a research assistant at KIT working on text mining and knowledge databases. I’m currently employed full time at a small company creating solutions for managing information.

I love creating web applications that help people get stuff done. Not only the productivity enhancement kind of getting stuff done, but making sure that you get what you came for. In the most effective way possible.

I love usability and design, but as I’m more of an engineer than a designer, I try to see the big picture - server and front end. I aspire to use the right tool that is needed to solve the problem. And Vim.

My track record of open source code is rather small until now, but a few things can be found here.

I’m available for selected freelance work.

Photography

I love photography, I always have. I started out using a 110 film camera when I was nine years old. Today I’m still dragging my camera along everywhere I go.

My biggest inspiration comes from a genre called street photography and its grand masters, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Elliott Erwitt, Robert Doisneau, Robert Frank - just to name a few. The spontaneous image, a documentary of the so called decisive moment is what I strive for.

I compiled a few selected images of which I’m quite fond of on my portfolio.

Music

Together with a friend I dj at small events, mostly student parties. If you’re ever in the need of a very danceable mix of indie, rock and selected pop music, let us know.

Cooking, Food and Travel

The mixture of cooking, food and travel is probably something that became chiq at least since Mr. Anthony Bourdain made a TV show out of it. Although I love the show, these three things have always formed a holy trinity for me. So don’t be surprised if I divert from the subject of photography or software development geekery onto the greatest meal I ever had in that small restaurant just around the corner, or the last recipe I tried.
